About Us
Barbara Slusher is Sew Chic's founder and lead
seamstress & designer. She has been an avid
seamstress and designer of custom clothing and
interior designs for over 30 years. Naturally a
creative person, she grew up loving fashion,
crafts, and decorating. She developed her
passion for sewing at John Marshall High School
(a.k.a. Barbara Cardenas) where she sewed her
very first garment. From these humble
beginnings she went on to design custom
dresses. She won a first place all-city award as a
high school student for a formal dress with a coat
she designed and sewed in her home economics
class. Gathering experience sewing for friends
and family members, word spread of her talent
and she began to sew for a variety of customers.
Throughout the years she has continued her craft
by sewing everything from wedding gowns to
overalls. Her specialty is in formal wear, such as
bridal attire, prom dresses, pageant gowns, and
more.

Sarah Elizabeth Salinas is Sew Chic's co-founder
and is in charge of business development and
marketing. She is the daughter of Barbara and fell
in love with all things glamorous as a toddler
playing in her mother's sewing room. Not long
after she could hold a pencil she was sketching
dresses for her mother to sew for her dolls.
Growing up, she was fortunate to have her vision
for clothes "custom-made" by mom. She went on
to earn a B.A. from the University of Texas at
Austin and an M.Ed. in Organizational Leadership
from Vanderbilt University.

Sew Chic was born out of the seamless talent of its founder, Barbara Slusher. In 2007, Barbara
and her daughter, Sarah, joined forces in order to offer their combined talents on a wider scale.
